Brogan is a wife and momma to a toddler who was feeling stuck in the “Mom Mode” and wanted a reason to get glammed up for a day, so she decided a boudoir session with me would be perfect. While planning her outfits for the session, she expressed her love for a white peplum top she owns, so I told her to bring it along—after all I do shoot contemporary glamour as well.

I felt like I had lost my identity a bit after becoming a mom, add on to that the year of COVID, and the world lately is anything but a positive place!

When I got to the studio, Shannon immediately made me feel comfortable. The studio was welcoming and inviting and she had such a carefree attitude from the get go that it made me settle in very quickly. After the amazing hair and make up transformation, we started with a contemporary glamour look, which I loved! It made me feel fierce and powerful and gave me the confidence I needed to feel like more than just a mom! By the time we made it through four outfit changes, I felt like I wanted to start all over again! It was so much fun.

How long have you been wanting to do a session?
Two years.

What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your session?
My friend LaCole recommended her after she completed her own session and shared a few images with me and the power she felt after her session.

What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
The session was most definitely my favorite part. It wasn’t until it was over that I felt like I was truly ready to begin again… guess I will just have to do it again!

Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
It was perfect and we adjusted lip color to compliment each outfit.

Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward?
I knew it felt awkward in the moment but I knew Shannon knew what she was doing and I trusted her.

What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal? Why?
Reveal for sure! Just had no idea what I would look like on picture.

Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images? Why?
No! I had confidence Shannon wouldn’t let me look like a fool!

What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
I loved the fierceness. She captured my fierce passion for life and I was grateful for that. I was happy with just the first image but she blew me away with the rest.

How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
Definitely left the studio feeing pretty bad ass.

Would you consider yourself a women who is very critical of herself in photographs? If yes, why are these portraits different from photographs in the past?
Super critical. I’d rather take the photo than be in it. Shannon knew all the right things to make sure she complimented my likes and avoided my dislikes.

Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
I felt with the right filters and angles I could be photogenic but Shannon proved me wrong!

Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
It was a lot of fun! My only stressor was finding outfits that complimented. I wished that [lingerie boutique] Underneath It All was closer to me. I totally would have gone and let them take control.

Would you recommend Shannon Hemauer Photography to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes! She is bad ass and knows what she is doing. She is astonishing!
