“I had been watching Shannon’s work for over four years and always dreamed of the day it would be my turn. I always envied the ladies’ stunning images I had seen and had small doubts here and there that I could do the same, but I I took the plunge this year and set a date. Shannon’s organization and help in preparing for the session was impeccable. Her friendliness and polite honesty in giving suggestions along the way were very professional. Finally when the session day came, I was so prepared that it was easy to have fun and be pampered. Even seeing some images quick on her camera helped to put me at ease that finally, I was that woman who was going to have some stunning images to keep forever. I can’t recommend Shannon and her team enough. The experience from start to finish is all about you, and having these gorgeous photos forever is priceless.”-Lauren
As Lauren stated above, she has been stalking me for years and she finally decide in 2021 she was done just wishing to do a session to actually doing a session—and I’m thrilled that she did because she had a blast and enjoyed being pampered for a few hours… not to mention now owns an album full of stunning portraits that she can look at when she needs a break from being mom.
Below is her client interview and you’ll find images from her session sprinkled throughout—take a moment to read over everything and then contact me to discuss how you want to be photographed.
How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session?
A very long time! I’ve been wanting to do this for at least four years.
What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your photo shoot?
I’ve been following Shannon’s work since 2017. Honestly I’ve never even shopped around for anyone else to do this type of photo work. Seeing Shannon’s work over the years has always intrigued me and the way she is able to capture everyone in such a beautiful and classy way sold me from day one. In addition to all the stunning images I’ve seen her share, I always love reading through the blog posts Shannon shares with all of these questions answered.
What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the image reveal?
Everything was very fun but the reveal was my favorite part for sure! Being a busy mom of four, it was actually a bit hard to shop for my session. I was lucky enough to snag an appointment at Underneath It All for some in-person help, which worked out much better then some of the online shopping I had been doing. Shannon’s organization with all of the appointments along the way were perfectly timed. I felt so much more at ease once she helped to finalize outfits and give suggestions. The session was a nice treat to be pampered and all dolled up, and the image reveal was just icing on the cake for all of that time and prep work!
Did you leave your photo shoot worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
Not at all. It was gorgeous.
Did you leave your boudoir experience worried that the posing felt awkward?
It definitely felt awkward at times and was much more work then I had imagined it would be. Shannon and her team were amazing to work with and super encouraging that I was doing a great job. I really appreciated that at times Shannon would show me an image on her camera screen to show me it from her view. It helped to make me understand it all… It may have felt awkward, but looks AMAZING!
What were you more nervous about—the session or the image reveal? Why?
The session—I was mainly concerned that my facial expression wouldn’t match how I was feeling and look genuine.
Did you arrive to the image reveal worried if you’d like your images? Why?
Not worried that I would like them, but more so that there would not be enough that I liked. [From Shannon: She loved them all.]
What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
Omigoodness!!!!! I was stunned and so excited!
If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
I wasn’t too worried from the few shots she shared with me as we were shooting. I absolutely loved what I saw in the portraits.
How did shooting this boudoir session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
For me I don’t think I’ve ever really lacked in confidence, but more so my identity as “busy mom” vs. “me.” It was and is a nice reminder that although being a mom is my favorite, I’m so much more than that and it was nice to take some time for myself.
Would you consider yourself a women who is very critical of herself in photographs? If yes, why are these portraits different from photographs in the past?
Sometimes yes. Shannon was absolutely amazing at coaching me exactly what to do, sometimes even down to the placement of my fingers.
Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
Yes and no. Sometimes I think I’m overdoing it in photos if that’s even possible (to smile too big). Shannon definitely has some pointers on the happy medium, which I am still working on! Big smiles are great too, though.
Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
None.
Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
Yes—it was definitely a process, but trust the process! Shannon clearly does it all for a reason and it works perfectly. I was always very excited for the next step!
Would you recommend a boudoir photo shoot with Shannon Hemauer Photography to your friends? Why or why not?
Absolutely! I think the fact that Shannon is exclusive to boudoir makes a very big difference. Her and her team have a very tight-knit dynamic that is easy to see and feel. That makes for a very laid back and safe-feeling environment. I think most ladies would agree this isn’t the type of photo shoot we do often, if ever, so those feelings of comfort are top priority. And the fact that after it’s all said and done, Shannon’s expertise and knowledge results in beautiful and stunning images. There is no need to look anywhere else. You get what you pay for and Shannon is worth every penny.
Looks like fun, right? Because it is! Contact me today to schedule your phone consult to discuss how you want to be photographed.
Until next time,
Shannon
