BAMBI: PART 1

THE HELMET

In September 2021 Bambi did her third session with me. Her first boudoir session was in the fall of 2019, then she did a couple’s session with her husband in January 2020 (before the world shut down).

But this year’s session was extra important to her, because it meant she was still alive.

Bambi was in a horrific motorcycle accident the summer of 2020—she was on the back of her husband’s bike, the stem of the bike’s rear tire blew, causing the tire to lose air, which caused the tire to catch a rut in the road, which caused the bike to lurch in a way that caused Bambi to go flying off the bike and hit the ground.

The truly amazing thing—she fell away from oncoming traffic; she missed flying into the guard rail that could have split her into two; and, three off-duty EMS men were riding in the opposite direction and saw it happen/were on the scene before her husband even realized what had occured.

For the first few days in the hospital, the diagnosis was grime—she had severe brain swelling, her left shoulder was shattered, and she had road burn on her arms/back/side/knee. Her family, as they watched her on a ventilator, was preparing for her to die. 😭 And if she didn’t die, the doctors expected her to have brain damage.

BUT! If you know Bambi, she is one tough chick—she was fighting to live for her husband and their young children. (AND there was no way she was going to die wearing a hospital gown!) She fought HARD! And by a miracle, she was back home within (I believe) 30 days of the accident!

There is some brain damage but she’s overall her pre-accident self, her shoulder had to be rebuilt/there are mobility issues, and she has scars from the accident, but she’s alive and doing well!

For her third session, she had this vision of wearing a stunning red gown and posing with the helmet that saved her life. She wanted a statement image to show the value in wearing a helmet…

I’m breaking Bambi’s boudoir session into two parts. Part one is all about her stunning red dress and her helmet. Part two, which I’ll post next week, is all about how she proudly displayed her scars during her boudoir session.

Shortly after her image reveal, Bambi posted on her Facebook wall about her experience with the accident/helmet. I’ve pulled bits from that post to share with you.

In March 2021, I knew I wanted to make a statement for people to wear their helmets on motorcycles. I called [Shannon and discussed my ideas], and I talked to my husband about what would catch someone’s eye to stop and read. Without hesitation he said [a red dress]!

My photos were to be done the day after my one-year accident anniversary but [my daughter] had a low-grade fever so I couldn’t go. Rescheduled for a few weeks later and today [at the image reveal] Shannon delivered exactly the idea in my head with my husband’s dress idea. She killed it!

I hear every time I tell someone to wear a helmet, ‘Oh I know how to ride a bike,’ ‘I’ve been riding for years,’ ‘I have no wife or kids so it doesn’t matter.’ And then there is my favorite one, ‘That would never happen to me.’

I pray it doesn’t ever happen to anyone and I’m here to show my helmet and show it proudly. Both my husband and I just about pulled out of the driveway that day with no helmet on, but one of us needed our sunglasses and at that moment of me grabbing the sunglasses, I saw my helmet and grabbed it and also grabbed my husband’s and we put them on… three hours later it saved my life.

To put it completely blunt and gruesome, if I hadn’t worn it, my doctor said my brains would be splattered all over the road and I would for sure have a closed casket funeral.

I just know if [I hadn’t be wearing my helmet] my outcome would be different today and so would my husband’s and kids’ everyday lives.

God is great; God wasn’t just good that day.

I want to finish this post by sharing the response to one of the client interview questions that I ask after every session. Usually clients write that it was the session, or seeing their photos for the first time, or shopping for lingerie. Bambi’s response, “The laughs” truly made me smile.

I must be doing something right if this is her third time coming to see me. 🙂
