Faith booked a boudoir session with me because she wanted her husband to have portraits of her—she doesn’t like her photo taken, but understands the importance of existing in photographs for those you love.
Faith presented an interesting dynamic to her session for me to figure out—she doesn’t like her smile. And I’m not talking about a big smile, or a smile showing teeth. She doesn’t like even the smallest hint of a smile on her lips. Now, to get the eyes to engage and be connected in camera (aka, to not look uninterested and pissed off), I needed her to at least give me a slight smirk…which she did very well! I did appease her and took a few images where she has no smirk at all, and I was relieved when she liked most of her portraits, smirk or no smirk!
She is also the first women I’ve photographed in four years who, while she liked her photos, still didn’t feel at least a little more confident in having her photo taken. Why am I sharing this with you? Because, again, she did this session for her husband, who thinks she’s beautiful. So even if you don’t think you’re photogenic, there are probably people out there who will disagree with you! They want to have pictures of you!
So I guess from Faith’s session I learned I may need to sometimes shift my goal of taking the most stunning portraits you’ve ever seen of yourself, to instead taking the most stunning portraits your friends/family have ever seen of you.
Her husband (who came to her reveal with her) was truly thrilled and was smiling ear to ear as were were going through her portraits.
Below you’ll find Faith’s client interview. Take a moment to read over her answers—you may find you can relate to her—and then contact me to today to schedule your complimentary phone consult. But don’t wait—my first available session is September 26, followed by October 24th. I only have seven session dates available that meet the Christmas 2018 deadline.
How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session and what made you decide now was the time to do one?
Couple of years. I am turning the big 50 this year—why not?! 🙂
What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir/contemporary glamour session?
Shannon’s work is beautiful, tasteful, and elegant. She made me feel comfortable on our first conversation. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
The session itself. It was having a girl’s day, and the day being all about you.Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
I did think the makeup was too dark, but with that being said I DO NOT wear makeup at all. But [lead stylist] Nath did a wonderful job on both hair and makeup.Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward?
No not at all. What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal?
The reveal.Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images?
Most definitely! I am too critical of myself. What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
Shock. The before and after image was truly amazing. If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
Yes.How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
I still have the same outlook. And my confidence is the same. But I am not your typical person either—you could of photo shopped me to look like a super model and my confidence level and outlook would not change. I really did this for my hubby. Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
Not photogenic at all, and I have to be honest, still not a photogenic person. Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
Were they going to be the right fit for me? Make me feel comfortable? Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
Yes, the session was a lot fun and seeing the images. Why should other women do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session with Shannon Hemauer Photography?
Why not? I think every woman should treat themselves to a boudoir session and feel beautiful and I can think of no other person better then Shannon! You will love her!Is there anything I could have done to improve upon your experience?
NOT AT ALL!!
As always I want to thank lead stylist Nath for doing an amazing job on Faith’s hair/makeup. And of course to my wonderful assistant, Dianna, for assisting.
Until next time,
Shannon
