How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session and what made you decide now was the time to do one?
I knew I wanted to do a boudoir session as a gift for my fiancé. I was lucky enough to find Shannon and book in time before my wedding!
What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir session?
Honestly, once I decided I wanted to do a shoot, I did a web search to find local photographers and Shannon was at the top of the list. After browsing her site and visiting a few others there was no question I wanted Shannon to do my shoot. Her pictures are gorgeous and classy while still giving that sexy feeling I wanted to portray.
What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
I would have to say the reveal was my favorite part. It’s all so exciting but sitting down and finally getting to see the finished product makes all the worry worth while!!
Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
The day of my session I definitely felt like my hair and makeup did not feel like me. I liked the way it all looked but was very different than what I would normally wear or gravitate towards.
Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward?
The posing feels awkward and unnatural during the process and made me wonder how the photos actually turned out. But I trusted Shannon that she knew what she was doing!
What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal?
I was more nervous for the actual session. I never had professional photos taken, let alone boudoir! So I was feeling anxious to be in front of the camera with little clothing. But Shannon and her team made me feel completely comfortable and I honestly forgot about my attire and just had fun!
Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images?
I was worried about some of my images, that they may not turn out the way I hoped since the posing seemed unnatural and awkward.
What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
‘No way is that me!’ Haha It was me but a more polished-and-put-together version of myself.
If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
I loved what I saw. It took some getting used to, since I usually opt for a more natural look on a day-to-day basis. But [lead stylist] Nath highlighted my best features and truly made me look and feel beautiful.
How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
I would say my session with Shannon has made me feel more confident in myself. We all have those trouble areas we wish would go away but she made me realize I don’t need to focus on that and to embrace the features I do love!
Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
I wouldn’t say I felt that I wasn’t photogenic but after the tips Shannon shared I have a lot more confidence. I have a very round face so sometimes pictures can be unflattering, but Shannon showed me how to accent my features for a better photograph and I can say I’ve used her tips already.
Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
My biggest concern before hiring a photographer was finding someone I could be comfortable with in such a sensitive setting. Especially with boudoir photos, I wanted to make sure I was at ease with the photographer to ensure the best results possible.
Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
I was expecting this experience to be a lot more stressful than fun, but was I wrong! Shannon helps every step of the way and makes you feel comfortable asking questions. The day of the shoot was a blast! Her team has such a fun bond that you can’t help but smile the entire time. They also make you feel welcomed from the minute you walk into the studio.
Why should other women do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session with Shannon Hemauer Photography?
I believe every woman should do a boudoir or contemporary glamour shoot with Shannon because simply, you are worth it. You are worth taking the time to feel beautiful, wear a gorgeous gown or outfit, and have fun! Too often as a woman we feel the need to act a certain way or portray ourselves according to how society feels we should look instead of taking the time to do something for ourselves. I guarantee after working with Shannon you will look and feel your absolute best!
Is there anything I could have done to improve upon your experience?
There is nothing I would change about my experience! 🙂
