This has been a year of growth for me—I worked with a mentor to fine tune my posing skills, attended the Portrait Masters photography conference to grow as a photographer, started my Bottle-Feeding Mommas personal project, and I finished out the year of growth photographing Amy on a fitness pole.
Amy’s been taking fitness pole classes at Spinning Harts Pole and Dance Studio’s Camp Hill location since September 2018 and asked if I’d come photograph her.
I’ll be honest—I didn’t know what the hell I was going to do for this session. I’m used to directing the client with posing. I’m also used to the client not moving once she’s in that pose. In pole fitness, the woman is moving! Moving to get into position, moving to fine tune her grip, moving to spin around the pole…
Although there are some great poses that can be done stationary on the pole:
This session was a lot of fun for me. It pushed me out of the comfort zone of my studio, forced me to think through my camera settings, made me figure out the available light and how to use it.
I told Amy when she booked this session I didn’t know how her images would turn out, but I must say, I’m very happy with them! Not bad for not knowing what to expect! And it was fun to edit the images darker than my normal work. And if you’re looking for something new to do for fitness, I’m telling you, look into pole fitness! Holy cow! Watching Amy, I think every muscle is engaged, especially the core! (Spinning Harts has two locations—Camp Hill and Harrisburg.)
