Diane has known my lead stylist, Nath, for several years—Diane has been a long-time client at Beauty Works, the hair salon Nath and her sister, Pheap, own. (I personally go to Beauty Works, too, and I highly recommend both either lady!)
Both Nath and Pheap have done sessions with me over the years, and Diane has been admiring their images…she finally decided it was her turn!
Below you’ll find Diane’s client interview—take a moment to read over her responses to my question, and if you find that you can relate, contact me today to schedule a complimentary phone consult to discuss how you want to be photographed.
How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session and what made you decide now was the time to do one?
I first became interested when I saw the portrait of a friend of mine. After I started following Shannon’s Facebook page and seeing all of the amazing portraits that were posted, it really ignited my desire to do my own session. I found myself thinking about how I might want to do one, what I might want to wear, etc. I knew that I wanted to stick more to the modern glamour style and not boudoir, but I did do one outfit for boudoir and it was very tasteful.
What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir/contemporary glamour session?
I felt that client’s testimonials were very positive, but mainly I felt that the results spoke for itself. All of the images that I had seen were beautiful.
What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
While the session itself was a lot of fun, I feel that the reveal was the best part. It was the culmination of months of planning and preparing for the day and ultimately getting to see the end result of everyone’s efforts.
Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
No. While the make-up was more dramatic than I would normally wear, it was beautiful and applied heavier for the purpose of the shoot, so I understood that it would be much more than an “everyday” look!
Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward?
Not at all. I trusted that everyone knew what they were doing!
What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal?
I really didn’t feel nervous about either. I trusted everyone involved and felt that I honestly didn’t have anything to be nervous about.
Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images?
I was not worried about it, but I was definitely curious to see how the portraits turned out! I loved my hair and make-up and I loved what I wore for the shoot, so I felt that there was a very good chance that I would be happy with the results, especially because of seeing other clients’ portraits.
What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
“Wow!”
If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
I was not worried, but yes, I absolutely liked what I saw.
How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
I would say that the portraits certainly make me look more confident than I typically feel. I feel that I have been marveling at these images since my reveal and reminding myself that I can feel as confident as I look. I’ve thought about placing a couple of the more powerful images in a place where I can see them every day as a sort of reminder to stand tall and be confident!
Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
I’ve had many people tell me that I’m very photogenic and while I don’t like every picture taken of me, I do often like pictures of myself. But I would say this session took that to a whole other level!
Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
I did not have concerns because I wasn’t really looking for or shopping around for a photographer. I liked what I saw and decided that it was something that I wanted to do for myself, and I knew I wanted to do it with Shannon.
Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
Being someone who enjoys this kind of thing, I was not really surprised. I enjoy planning outfits and putting things together like this. Planning ahead was key and allowed me to have fun with the planning process without a lot of added stress.
Why should other women do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session with Shannon Hemauer Photography?
I believe every woman will have her own personal reasons, so it is hard to say why other women should do it. I can only speak for myself and why I did it and perhaps that will resonate with another potential client. For me, I felt that I wanted to capture this particular period in my life. I haven’t hit a goal weight and it wasn’t a milestone birthday, but I feel happy in my life and wanted to have a record of it for years to come. So often my time and energy are directed at other things like taking care of my kids and my home. I’m usually the one taking pictures and I’m not always IN the pictures. I wanted to be able to look back on this period of my life when I am happy, healthy, and having a wonderful time and just celebrate me and my life!
I know that I will never regret doing it and will always love to look back on my portraits!
Until next time,
Shannon
