How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session and what made you decide now was the time to do one?
I had done one years ago [with another photographer]. I had been losing weight and ending a 6 1/2 year relationship and decided it was something I wanted to do for myself at a time in my life full of change. What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir session?
I loved her portfolio and just had this gut feeling about her. The gut was spot on!What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
The session. I had so much fun!Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
Not at all. I had total confidence that everything would be great. And loved the way my hair and makeup looked even after I drove all the way home—and I definitely didn’t live close by!Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward?
Not at all. While it wasn’t always the most physically comfortable positions I’ve ever been, I had felt great chemistry with everyone and had complete faith in Shannon. What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal?
The session initially. I knew the photos were going to be killer! No doubt about it!Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images?
I did my reveal over video chat since I don’t live near by…but again, not worried at all. Pure excitement! What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
“Holy crap!” I looked so happy…it was like I was glowing. If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
No worries here. How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
I hadn’t lost the weight I had originally wanted to before the session…and I didn’t care. I thought my photos were stunning…I guess that means I thought I looked stunning—not something I say about myself on the regular. Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
I have my good days and bad days in photographs…but definitely thought the bad outweighed the good. Yeah, I think I can be photogenic now. Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
Mostly, I just wanted someone I could be my quirky self with, be comfortable with, and have fun with. Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
I had a good feeling about it so I wouldn’t say surprised but it definitely surpassed my expectations. Why should other women do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session with Shannon Hemauer Photography?
Why not? I think whether a woman goes into it for herself or for a partner, she can gain so much from just being open to the experience. I could have pointed out 50 things about myself that I would normally consider flaws and used them as reasons to delay or not do my session at all…all of those perceived flaws fell away and left me with an appreciation of the woman that I am, physically and mentally. One of the things I always looked at as a flaw was the way I scrunch my nose when I am truly smiling while I laugh…its actually one of my favorite parts of my photos (and I came to find out one of the things my boyfriend likes to see in boudoir photos or just around the house). Is there anything I could have done to improve upon your experience?
Um…booked my next session before I left…? No seriously, I already can’t wait to do another session and I just got my album in the mail today!
A big thank you to lead stylist, Nath, for helping Whitney feel like a rockstar, and to assistant Dianna, for helping Whitney feel like a queen.
Until next time,
Shannon
