Happy New Year, everyone! I’m excited to get started with 2020! I am on a professional journey this year to improve my craft—more info to come on this subject.
So, this client interview is with Stacey, who is super critical of herself, which is a pretty common thing I’m told by clients. I honestly think one of the reasons women are so hard on themselves in photographs is they are often looking at snapshots taken by a point-and-shoot camera/cell phone—the lenses in these items tend to be a 35mm, which is a wide-angle lens and can distort things at close range, e.g., your nose looks bigger than it really is.
I take the before photos up close on purpose with my cell phone camera so you can see the difference that using a professional photographer makes. Notice I didn’t say a professional camera. It’s the photographer who knows how and when to use a 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, etc.
I wish I had permission to use Stacey’s before image (taken with my cell phone’s camera)—it really demonstrates my point.
Below is Stacey’s client interview. Please take a moment to read over her answers, and if you can relate, please contact me today to discuss your own boudoir session.
How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session?
Been on my mind for several years. What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir glamour session?
The phone consult with her and prior clients’ comments. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
The reveal.Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
Absolutely! I don’t wear makeup so it was a huge concern that it would not look like me and I would look fake.Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward?
Yes. Some poses felt awkward, others uncomfortable. What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal?
Have to say equally both!Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images?
Yes! I was terrified that I wouldn’t find ones I liked. What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
If I am going to be honest, I didn’t like my sneak peak picture so I was even more nervous for my reveal, but loved almost all the others [at the reveal]. I ended with more I liked than not.If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
Yes! Loved my portraits. How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
I am very critical of myself and I don’t know that I can say one session will fully change that. I can say it has helped me to see my hard work progress and now I am motivated to continue and have pics to remind me on rough days.Would you consider yourself a women who is very critical of herself in photographs? If yes, why are these portraits different from photographs in the past?
Absolutely. Yes very critical. I would have to say because professional photos can’t be compared to amateur photos. Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
No. I can say [Shannon] pulled out my best features with my photos, which helps to feel photogenic. Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
Wasting everyone’s time and my money for pics I might not like. Also, people seeing me in less-than-normal clothes. Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
Yes.Would you recommend Shannon Hemauer Photography to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes, because the outcome makes a difference. When should we schedule your next session? 😉
Maybe for my 50th, which isn’t terribly far away.
A big thank you to lead stylist, Nath, for doing a great job on Stacey’s hair, and to Dianna, for just being awesome.
Until next time,
Shannon
