When I met Shannon in person for the first time, I immediately felt like she was someone I’ve known for years—she was so easy to talk to and truly has a contagious joy about her. And she ended up surprising me—she kept telling me leading up to the session how awkward she is in front of the camera, and then she ends up being super easy to direct with posing. Shannon, who has been married for 20 years, is a nurse and a mom to two 16-year-old boys, a 15-year-old girl, and a 9-year-old boy. She’s a fitness instructor, owns two dogs, and loves watching her boys in sports and her daughter in her singing/acting. She struggles with weight, more so now that she is turning 45, and wants to do a boudoir session as a part of “redefining” who she is and being proud of who she is. When I asked Shannon what she hoped to get out of doing a boudoir session, she said, “I want to see my beauty and strength. I am reclaiming myself and trying to lose the low self esteem and concern with the weight. [I want] more confidence in me! To see and know my outer beauty matches my inner beauty! Losing concern with my weight.” Below is my client interview with Shannon—take a moment to read through her response, and if you can to relate to her concerns/worries, then contact me today to discuss your own boudoir session. How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session? Over a year. What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir session? I had viewed her work and loved it, but once I spoke with her I was sold. She is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and
Model Call: Fine-Art Ballet Boudoir | Carlisle PA Boudoir | Shannon Hemauer Photography
Thank you for being interested in my fine-art ballet boudoir project! Before moving forward, I want to take a moment and introduce myself: I’m Shannon—I’m a wife, mother, and active duty United States Air Force veteran who has been shooting exclusively boudoir and contemporary glamour portrait photography since 2014. I love what I do—I love the amazing women I have the privilege of shooting, I love the artistic work that goes into each session (every woman brings her own ‘vibe’ to the studio!), and I love creating stunning portraits for my clients. (I also love proving to women who tell me they aren’t photogenic that they can look fantastic in photographs!) I know I am doing what my purpose is in life, which is to empower women by using my camera, and I am humbled everyday that I am so blessed to call my passion my career. So why do I want to photograph a boudoir session specifically with a pointe ballerina? Because ballet dancers know how to move gracefully, are flexible, and take posing directions well. Sometimes a photographer needs to do something that feeds her soul, and this concept has been giving me hunger pains for well over a year. What am I envisioning for this session? I’m thinking fine art: classic, perhaps wearing sheer items, flowy material. A combination of classic boudoir posing interwind with a ballet feel. We’ll discuss my vision in detail if you’re selected for my project. The following is required to be a contender for this model call: You must be a female between 25-35 years old You must be able to stand on pointe, including standing/moving without assistance You must sign a model release authorizing me permission to use all images for marketing You must be comfortable wearing sheer material for the session You
Client Interview: Meghan | Reading PA Boudoir | Shannon Hemauer Photography
Megan is a ball of energy! Like, crazy energy (and I mean that in the sweetest of ways, Meghan!), but I was a smidge concerned that she was going to have a difficult time focusing during her session because of that energy, but she nailed it! During the planning process, she kept implying she was awkward with posing, but she couldn’t have been further off the mark—she followed my directions and made my job easy. Take a moment to look over her images sprinkled throughout her client interview below, and if you can relate to her confidences and/or concerns, contact me today to schedule your phone consult to discuss your own session. How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session and what made you decide now was the time to do one? This was a spur-of-the-moment idea for me to book a session. I stumbled across these images of woman in beautiful lingerie and fabulous dresses and was star struck at the beauty and power they held in the photographs. I thought, ‘Why haven’t you believed in yourself enough to try something like this?’ I am typically a very strong willed and independent woman in every aspect of my life, but just not with my body. So I decided to step outside my comfort zone and made a commitment to invest in my self-awareness and pride of who I am as a woman. What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir/contemporary glamour session? Shannon is a woman of grace and excellence. She provides structure, compassion, empathy, and communication that releases any form of tension within your body. Her experience shines through in her words and actions. When I first spoke on the phone with Shannon, there was an
LaCole | Mechanicsburg PA Boudoir Photographer | Shannon Hemauer
LaCole did her boudoir session as a wedding-day gift to her now-husband, and while we were planning her session she asked if we could incorporate a fishing vest and pole into a few of the images because her hubby loved to fish… How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session and what made you decide now was the time to do one? Years, but I never felt the need to do it for me! What else do you get a man that has everything? Answer: A Boudoir Session. What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir session? That she was willing to work with me and my vision of fishing-themed photos. Plus, how she prepares you up to the day of your session. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal? The planning—it made me feel so comfortable and made me not even think twice about being uncomfortable or worried about the session. Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)? Heck no!!!! I just was thinking I wish I had the talent to do my own hair and makeup like that. Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward? Oh yes, but I had faith in Shannon that she knew exactly what she was doing!!! But she also explained some posing was going to feel awkward. What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal? The reveal—I never like my photos. Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images? Yes—that’s when I was nervous even though I felt beautiful the day of my session. strong>What did
Three Times a Charm: Miss L | Hershey PA Boudoir | Shannon Hemauer Photography
Earlier this year I started offering past clients a new perk: boudoir marathons, which is basically several clients doing their own mini-sessions back to back on shooting day. Miss L was quick to sign up, making this her third time shooting with me. The first time was in 2017 when I was still shooting out of my house, and then again in 2018 in my current studio. This time around, Miss L and I decided to do a moodier/darker boudoir session than we’ve done in the past—a lot of fun and pushed me out of my comfort zone with the lighting. So let me ask you—do you imagine your own boudoir session light and airy or dark and moody? Or maybe a bit of both! Contact me today to discuss how you envision your session. A big thank you to lead stylist, Nath, for helping Miss L get the hair/makeup look she wanted, and to my assistant Dianna, for just being awesome.
