Since her 2017 boudoir session, Deanett has repeatedly told me she would be back for another session—she was true to her word! Below is her client interview discussing how this recent session differed from her first time around. Take a moment to read over her answers—if you’re a past client who wants to do another session, email me and let’s get it on the books! And if you’re a first timer who wants to a boudoir session, contact me today to schedule a phone consult to discuss your vision. What made you decide to do another boudoir session with Shannon Hemauer Photography? After my first boudoir session in 2017 with Shannon, I knew I was going to do another, although I didn’t have a date or milestone in mind. Shannon announced a rare mini-session day for past clients—this was perfect so I jumped on the opportunity. I made countless trips to Underneath It All trying on different outfits as I came up with ideas. [Manger] Nicole was amazing putting outfits together, and then she’d take pictures so I could bounce the ideas off of Shannon. Before I knew it, I had too many outfits and I couldn’t narrow it down to [just one]. Shannon called and asked if I wanted to change the mini session to a full session… How did this boudoir session differ from your first session? I didn’t want it to end. [Note from Shannon: And you wanted your first session to end???] This time around, what was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal? Elements from each part make it difficult to pick a favorite. The Planning: Shopping at Underneath it All and texting Shannon lots of pics for feedback. The Session: Our conversations while Nath was doing my
Stephannie: Collar & Leash | Central PA Boudoir | Shannon Hemauer Photography
I’ve always said that each woman I photograph brings her own vibe to the studio, and Stephannie brought hers for sure! The morning of her session, Stephannie casually mentioned to me that she brought a collar and leash, and was wondering if we could sort of work it into her session. She didn’t make a big deal out of it, didn’t really give me a reason to believe that this was something truly important to her. So, I started the session out as I normally do—in my studio with the client wearing her dress rental selection. Most clients are nervous when we first start shooting, but quickly relax. I noticed Stephannie was having trouble finding her groove, so after a few shots I asked her if she’d want to go to the Penny Gallery, which is a room in my building that local artists can display their art work/you can rent for events. The entire floor is covered in pennies, hence the name. Stephannie was game. I mentioned to her that she should wear the collar/leash with the dress rental for a few shots—I often find that putting two contrasting things together truly go well in photographs. A sparkly evening gown and bondage gear would fall in to that category. Let me tell you, the moment Stephannie put on that collar/leash, her entire demeanor changed. She went from being unsure of what she was doing, to being a strong, confident woman. She found her groove! We worked our way back up to the studio for the next outfit, which was a beautiful corset/panty/thigh high look she purchased at Underneath It All. And while I loved how things were going, I still felt she was more alive when we were in the Penny Gallery with the that collar/leash, so I
Kendra | Gettysburg PA Boudoir | Shannon Hemauer Photography
I meet Kendra in January 2018, when she brought her ailing mom to me for a contemporary glamour portrait session—Kendra knows the importance of existing in portraits, and really wanted to own beautiful photographs of her momma. A simple Google search of “photographer who does hair and makeup” led me to Shannon Hemauer Photography. I was looking for someone to take pictures of my mom. She’s very ill and I wanted to do something special for her. Shannon was gracious enough to fit my mom in her schedule. I went with my mom to her photo shoot. It was magical. I hadn’t seen her smile that much in months. It’s a special memory I’ll keep forever. My mom’s photo shoot was so magical I wanted to experience it for myself. I turned fifty years old this year. I deserve some smiles and magic myself! A few months later, Kendra did just that! Kendra is an easy-going gal, and wanted her outfits to reflect this, so we went with a more casual approach when planning her looks. But she also wanted to work her love of bicycling into her session and requested one of her outfits be her husband’s favorite racing getup on her. We worked in a pop of red with a pretty bra. I was nervous and excited before my photo shoot. I thought since I’m a bigger girl it’d be impossible to make me look spectacular. I was wrong! Nath, (a true hair and makeup artist) made me look fantastic! When the actual photo shoot started I breathed a sigh of relief and just had fun. Then I had to wait for my reveal. It seemed like forever. And finally, she wanted to have portraits that her own children would cherish, so she selected this beautiful blue dress
Amy | Lancaster PA Boudoir | Shannon Hemauer Photography
Amy told me she really likes the color pink, so I went out and found her one of the pinkest dresses I could find for her to wear for her dress rental. That’s her necklace in the image above, that she so sweetly donated to the studio wardrobe. I love that we started her session, though, a bit more casual than what I normally do. A big thank you to lead stylist, Nath, for doing a great job on Amy’s hair and makeup, and to Dianna, for being an awesome assistant. Thinking about doing your own boudoir session with me? Miss L Returns | Hershey PA Boudoir | Shannon Hemauer Photography
Miss L is a returning client. She did her first session in August 2017 and contacted me at the end of 2018 with very specific ideas/poses for her next session. I was nervous I wouldn’t be able to capture her vision, but we spoke at length on this topic, and we used her Pinterest inspiration board to help guide me so I could get those poses she wanted. Miss L’s reason for doing a second session was really beautiful—it was to prove to herself that even though she’s not a size 2, she CAN look amazing in portraits. Her confidence was boosted in her first session with me, but she wanted this session to be a bit more racy than what she did before. I love working with past clients! They arrive to their session knowing what to expect and ready to step even further out of their comfort zone, because they know they are in a safe place with me and my team. (And no image is shown publicly without their written permission.) Are you thinking about doing your first boudoir session? I encourage to you click the contact button today to discuss what your vision is for your session. A big thank you to lead stylist Nath, for doing a great job on Miss L’s hair/makeup, and to Dianna, for assisting me during the session.
