Swing Street lead singer, Olivia Marstellar, chatted with me after her recent session so we could talk about her contemporary glamour portrait experience with me—can you relate with her responses? If yes, contact me today to schedule your complimentary consult to discuss how you want to be photographed. How long have you been wanting to do a contemporary glamour session and what made you decide now was the time to do one? As a musician, I need to update my headshots every so often, as they are what accompanies my recordings, press kits, etc. As a recently married musician, being able to spend a morning working with a photographer was a fun way to remind myself, in the midst of the transition to a new family and a new home, to take time for self-care and mark the beginning of my new life as a married woman. What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your contemporary glamour session? Honestly, a Google search. Shannon’s portfolio and blog is a testament to the care and respect that she gives each and every woman that steps in front of her lens, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to experience that in person. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal? The shoot was beyond fun, but my favorite was the time I got to spend with my Hair/Makeup Artist [Nath Mao], Shannon and Alisha while getting ready. They are such fun and bubbly personalities, and being in a room of women who enjoy each other’s company as much as they do (and who have come together to in support of something you’re doing for yourself and/or your husband) is a truly affirming and confidence-boosting experience. Before this experience, did
Client Interview: Mrs. Walker | Shannon Hemauer Photography
Remember the session I did with Mr. and Mrs. Walker? Well after they saw their portraits, I chatted with Mrs. Walker about her experience. If you find that you relate to her answers, please contact me today so we can discuss how you want to be photographed. How long have you been wanting to do a couple’s contemporary glamour session and what made you decide now was the time to do one? Quite some time, however it was not a priority on my list until I remarried. I experienced a traumatic divorce that left me feeling insecure, lacking self-confidence and a disgusting view of my body. What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your couple’s contemporary glamour session? I could tell after one phone call with Shannon she was the one! Shannon wanted to know me. Not only did she want to know me she wanted me to feel empowered to express what I wanted to accomplish. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal? Every part was unbelievably FUN…EXCITING…ADRENALINE PUMPING GREAT TIME! 🙂 Shannon’s assistant [Alisha], and make-up artist [Nath Mao] are one of kind. Hats off to the Shannon’s Girls. What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself? Breathtaking. How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident? Invigorating. Shannon has opened my eyes to accepting myself which is a gorgeous woman in and out of photos. Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now? I have never thought I was photogenic. Now, oh yes…. Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer? I wanted to enjoy every

Jazz Singer Olivia Marstellar | Shannon Hemauer Photography
Jazz singer Olivia Marstellar needed to update her professional head shots. But first a bit of background on this Nicole Kidman look-a-like. In 2015, Olivia joined guitarist Chuck Oettel, keyboardist Mike Truitt, and bassist Pete Bainbridge—the founders of the swing/jazz band Swing Street—as the lead singer. Per the official Swing Street website: “The group features a mix of mainstream jazz standards, some jazz adaptations of popular tunes and a few adventures into smooth jazz.” Have you seen my #ShopSmall commercial that’s on my Facebook page promoting my gift cards? That’s Olivia in the clip I took, as well as her singing with Swing Street for the soundtrack. So much fun! You can like their Facebook page HERE, as well as get a list of their upcoming SHOWS—there is one on New Year’s Eve if you’re still looking for plans. OK! Back to her session with me… When we were discussing her vision of her session, we both were thinking “Jessica Rabbit“… Do you agree we nailed it? AH! I love it! A few weeks before her session I had stopped in at a local Goodwill store and I found this beautiful lace dress (that I tea-stained, of course!) that also said “jazz singer” to me. When she tried it on, it was like it had been made for her—it fit her perfectly! The dress fit her so well that I had her twirl in it so I could do a “moving portrait” for her. Looks like fun, right? Because it is! Contact me today to schedule your complimentary consult to discuss how you want to be photographed. A big thank you to hair and makeup artist, Nath Mao, for doing what she does best! Shannon Confair | Shannon Hemauer Photography
Shannon Confair is a personal/business branding photographer who, per her Facebook page, creates a branding and marketing strategy that makes sense by creating a step-by-step plan of action to build and market your business to your dream clients through gorgeous imagery and online/offline strategies. A few examples are the sessions she did with Jasmine Clouser, the owner of The Couture Cakery, an award-winning designer cake, dessert table, and cupcake boutique serving Central Pennsylvania; and, the session with financial planner Rebecca Korn of the Pennwood Financial Group. In other words, Shannon has this amazing natural talent for capturing entrepreneurs in their element and helping them to translate that into fun images they can use in their online and print marketing. She does more than “just” head shots! Shannon and I started chatting after I had referred several head shot inquires her to —I don’t offer “head shots,” but I didn’t want to just refer the inquires to any ol’ photographer. Shannon’s also located in Dillsburg, so I was familiar with her work and style of photography. Shannon soon mentioned to me it had been too long since she had updated her own marketing portraits and asked me to take photographs of her doing what I do best—GLAM style. (And let me just say since I don’t normally incorporate props/prodcuts in my portraits, it was an interesting challenge for me to figure out how to pose her with her camera so it didn’t look cheesy.) When she arrived for her session, she was pretty nervous—she told me she debated cancelling her session for a number of reasons, one of which she gained some weight, as well as she didn’t like being on the “other side” of the camera. HMMMM. Sounds like she has the same fears/concerns as many of my boudoir and contemporary glamour clients do. (It’s
