I meet Holly in 2014 when she became the first winner of my I BELIEVE Project. She had so much fun, she came back for more in September of this year. Holly is an amazing woman. She’s so quick to laugh and has such a spunky spirit that I sometimes forget she’s been through hell and back—breast cancer-free for ten years, but she still feels at times robbed of her femininity. You can read about her I BELIEVE Project session HERE. How amazing does she look in this blue dress? The color and cut are perfect for her! Late last week I received an email from Holly, and it’s worth sharing: I am so in love with all of the photos! You make me feel so beautiful! I admit it; it is a daily struggle even 10 years after breast cancer came and robbed and scarred my body! Words can not express the feeling after seeing these photos! You have touched my heart and soul! Made me feel whole! Thank you for your amazing gifted talent! WOW. Her words confirm I’m doing exactly what I should be doing . <3 As much as I’m a part of their journey, they are a part of my own. So…Holly knows a bit about tulle. In her 2014 session, Alisha the Assistant and I made a rather large tulle skirt for her to wear for her session. It was the first time I made a tulle skirt and had no idea how much tulle I’d need. Apparently 800 YARDS will give you a rather fluffy skirt. She was, of course, game for playing with tulle for this current session, but THIS skirt was only around 150 yards, and this time I made a complete “dress”—top and skirt, which resulted in one of my favorite images from
Flashback: Show, Don’t Tell | Shannon Hemauer Photography
Flashback This blog first posted December 7, 2015. Show, Don’t Tell I often tell you how much fun these sessions are, but unless you’ve seen it for yourself, it’s hard for you to really understand the experience I put together for my clients. So I thought it would be neat for you to see Cindy’s reveal movie, which shows a lot of the behind the scenes—getting hair and makeup done, me posing her, and Cindy laughing a LOT. Cindy is a woman in her mid-60s!! Yes, I said mid-60s, and could easily pass for years younger. I loved her energy and joyful spirit! Hair and makeup credit to the talented Ashley Becker. See! Told you it looks like fun. 🙂 Contact me today to discuss how you want to be photographed. Until next time, Shannon

The majority of my female clients are boudoir clients, which usually means the session is a surprise to their significant other, so rarely do I photograph men. The woman in these pictures booked her boudoir session and then asked me to take a few photographs of her and her husband together in their wedding attire—they are newlyweds! So the morning of her boudoir session, he arrived just as we were finishing her hair/makeup so I could take a few portraits of them together, then once we were done, he left so I could shoot the boudoir portion. He came/left thinking it was JUST for the wedding portraits—he has no idea about the boudoir portion, which will be a Christmas gift. Although I don’t shoot men often, this is something that’s always an option to all of my clients, to have your boyfriend/husband, son(s) come either at the beginning of the session (right after hair/makeup is finished) or toward the end of the session (this just avoids the men-folk from being bored and grumpy) so I can take beautiful portraits of you with the men you love. I encourage you to contact me today to schedule your complimentary consult so we can discuss how you envision your own session. A big thank you to the talented Nath Mao for styling Mrs. Walker’s hair and doing her makeup! Meet “Claire Bear” (as I call her), a sweet, young woman who has “Southern Belle” oozing out her skin! She’s born and raised here in Central PA, but she just seems like a Southern Girl to me—I took one look at her and said, “You NEED big hair for your session.” And she totally agreed! I LOVE the image below. She’s so fierce! Confident! Such big hair! I usually discourage clients from wearing patterns, but she brought this off-the-shoulder top to her wardrobe consult and knew it would be perfect for her session. You agree? Would you like to do your own session? I now sell gift cards you can use toward the non-refundable retainer and/or purchase of a portrait collection, so ask your friends and family to buy you a few for Christmas! They can purchase them directly from my website HERE. The newest stylist to the team, Caitlin Harlin, did a great job on Claire’s hair and makeup. And of course, Alisha the Assistant, did a great job assisting. Until next time, Shannon
Tween Contemporary Glamour Portrait Photography: Kylie | Shannon Hemauer Photography
It’s Thanksgiving week and I’m thankful for this little girl, my 12-year-old niece, Kylie. Kylie, who did her own hair and makeup, had fun raiding the studio wardrobe and wore several of the dresses she found. I *barely* had to give her posing direction—apparently good posing comes naturally with the selfie generation! 🙂 She is such an amazing, smart, kind, thoughtful young lady. So tweens want to #existinphotographs, too, and they don’t want to look “dorky” (as I did when I was a tween)! With Christmas almost here, give a gift card from Shannon Hemauer Photography that can be used toward the non-refundable retainer and/or the purchase of a portrait collection for your tween. You can purchase the cards HERE from my website. Or contact me today and I can discuss shooting a session for your tween. Love you, Kylie! Aunt Shannon
