Heather booked me because she wanted to give her husband beautiful portraits of herself as an anniversary present. Like many women before her, a boudoir session was something she’d never done before and she was rather nervous as we began the planning process. At Heather’s wardrobe consult she showed me a short nightie she was thinking of wearing for the session but I could tell by her body language she wasn’t in love with it, so I suggested she wear instead the dress slip I have in the studio wardrobe. As soon as she tried it on her eyes lit up! She had a pair of shoes that she just loved and wanted to include in a few images—I thought the heels worked perfectly with the slip and gave her outfit a vintage feel. I love the “white sheet” look! It’s such a clean and classic look, and lets my clients be as-covered or as-exposed as they wish. Look at those green eyes! Nath Mao picked THE perfect shade of red for her lips that just make her eyes pop! And yes, in case you are wondering, I did tea-stain the slip! Looks like fun, right?! Well it is! If you’ve been thinking of doing a boudoir session, I challenge you to contact me to schedule your complementary consult so we can discuss how you want to be photographed.
Quick! Call the Fire Department! | Shannon Hemauer Photography
When Jess had her consult in April, her original idea was to wear her husband’s fireman jacket. We discussed this idea and decided she’d lose too much of her feminine shape wearing such a bulky item. So we decided to skip the fireman’s gear and instead went with this off-the-shoulder gray number. Way-way-way hotter than a fireman’s uniform. (I can hear her husband thanking me!) I wish I could share her amazing images in the dress rental and her lace top, but those she requested to keep private. Do you think this looks like fun? Do you want to do your own session but feel you aren’t “brave enough” to do boudoir? I encourage you to contact me today to schedule your complimentary consult so I can ease your concerns and answer your questions. A big thank you to Nath Mao for styling hair and makeup, and to Alisha the Assistant for taking behind-the-scene pictures. Until next time, Shannon

“The Book of Siavon” Author Jessica Eppley | Central PA Contemporary Glamour | Shannon Hemauer Photography Young adult fantasy author, Jessica Eppley, creator of the popular Book of Siavon series, needed updated head shots for her bio page on her website and other marketing material, so she did a full session with me in September. Jessica isn’t one to wear a lot of makeup or curl her straight hair, but she was up for adventure as she prepared for the release of the fourth book in the series, and wanted to glam things up for her portrait session, which I happily encouraged! I think she’ll be the first to admit she was nervous before her session, nervous during her session, and nervous after her session (even emailing me worried she’d look “too cute” in her pictures), but she was the most nervous the day of her portrait reveal. But once she saw her images—and took a few deep breathes—she was able to relax and have fun selecting her portrait collection. Initially she had trouble identifying with the woman in the pictures—could this actually be her?—but she soon came to believe that, YES!, that was her! If you’d like to met this talented writer, she’ll be at the York Book Expo October 15th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM—you can purchase her books and get her autograph. Client Interview: Mrs. R. | Shannon Hemauer Photography
So while I was in Wisconsin this past July for a family reunion, I did a session with Mrs. R.—an adorable young woman who never thought in a million years she would shoot a boudoir session, but she wanted to give her husband an amazing anniversary present so she contacted me so we could set out planning. Mrs. R. decided to keep all of her images private so I don’t have any from her session I can publicly show, so I’ve worked in some of my favorite images from 2016 throughout the interview questions. How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session? Three months before booking it. What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir session? We have mutual friends. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal? The session and how comfortable I felt. What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself? OMG! That’s really me! How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident? Yes, especially around my husband. Gave me my sexy back after a couple of unfortunate medical situations. Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now? Somewhat photogenic. Absolutely now. Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a professional photographer? Investing in something that I was uncomfortable doing. Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images? I knew it would be fun but didn’t know it would this be enjoyable. Why should other women do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session with Shannon Hemauer Photography? Regardless of what personal issues you face, you get to

“Beauty Works” Owner, Pheap Seltzer | Harrisburg PA Contemporary Glamour | Shannon Hemauer Photography Beauty Works salon owner, Pheap (pronounced “Pe-a”) Seltzer, arrived to her contemporary glamour session with her hair beautifully styled and sat down in the chair to let her younger sister, Nath Kreider, apply her makeup. She was very laid back as we went through the dresses she brought—her schedule did not permit us to have a wardrobe consult so I had no idea what she was bringing for her session. I needn’t worry! Just look at her black dress! I want a dress like this to add to the studio wardrobe. 🙂 Pheap colors her own hair and I was in LOVE with the red on her—she’s so talented with coloring hair! In fact, I’m scheduling a session with her soon for her to add dark blue to my hair! Just pops of color. I’m so excited. Pheap was a lot of fun to photograph—she was so quick to laugh, I loved the wardrobe she brought, and it was great to watch her reconnect with herself (vs being “mommy” or “wife.”) She told me about her love of wine, about her recent opening of her own salon (a dream come true for her), and shared a few stories about Nath as a kid. At Beauty Works, Pheap cuts, colors, styles men’s and women’s hair, and has a nail technician on staff. Nath will soon be joining her at the salon, where she’ll also cut, color, and style hair plus offer makeup application. If you’re in the Central PA area and you’re feeling adventurous with your hair color, schedule an appointment with Pheap by calling (717) 657-5049!
