She Wore Purple I was contacted by celebrity nursery designer (and Carrie Underwood look alike), Sherri Blum Schuchart, owner of Jack and Jill Interiors, located in Carlisle, PA, because, in her words, “As a 47-year-old mother, I was beginning to feel as if age was catching up with me and I was losing my youthful beauty.” How many of you ladies feel the same way about yourself? (I can relate, getting ready to turn 40 this month.) Sherri asked that her boudoir images remain private between she and her husband, which of course I agreed to do—below are some of my favorites from her contemporary glamour portion of her session. Take note of that stunning purple dress she is wearing that I rented her—would you believe she tried to tell me she usually wears black and was hesitant to try such a fab color? Below are here answers to my post-session client interview: How long have you been waiting to do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session and what made you decide now was the time to do one? I’d always wanted to experience a boudoir photography session and had been putting it off for years. I finally decided that I’d treat myself to this experience and give my hubby a Christmas gift he would never forget! What made you decide I was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir/contemporary glamour session? I researched several area photographers online and reviewed their portfolios. Shannon’s photos were a notch above the rest for sure. After speaking with her on the phone, I found her to be personable, honest and easy to talk with. This was definitely a woman I could feel comfortable working with for such an intimate project! What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the
Brittany & Her Race Car Lover
Brittany & Her Race Car Lover I want to start by first congratulating Brittany and her new husband, Kyle, on getting married this past Saturday! Brittany and I have been planning her bridal boudoir session since February of this year. She’s a planner like me—she wasn’t about to wait until the last minute to find a photographer to shoot her boudoir session. So, after months of anticipation, session day was finally here. Brittany’s husband is Kyle Moody, of Moody Motor Sports, a local sprint race car driver. From GO, Brittany and I plotted to shoot her on/around his sprint car. But first we shot three outfits here at the studio. The first was the designer gown I rented for her session. The second outfit was a black corset, matching panties, thigh-high stockings/garter combo, and the third outfit was her wearing her bridal veil, cowgirl boots, an ivory lace top and matching panties. As you can guess, she requested I keep those “for his eyes only.” But I can show you this awesome necklace she wore for her session. Please ooh-and-aah over it at your leisure. But, what I can share with you is this: Brittany arranged for Kyle’s crew chief to have Kyle at the garage when we arrived for that portion of the session. Kyle had no idea what was going on—when Brittany, Alisha the Assistant, and I walked into the garage, Kyle’s face was priceless! I don’t think he initially believed Brittany when she told him we were here to take photos of her on the car, but once I put him to work holding the fan to keep Brittany cool, he knew we were serious. (Please note the hair movement from the fan in the following image—great job, Kyle!) During our scheming, I asked Brittany if she thought Kyle
2015 I BELIEVE Project Winners: Diana and Victoria
2015 I BELIEVE Project Winners: Diana and Victoria November 2014 was the first I BELIEVE Project session, where I offered a complimentary contemporary glamour session to a deserving woman who is a cancer survivor. This year I continued on my efforts and offered this wonderful experience to two more deserving women—Diana and Victoria. This post is a double the beauties–images from both the July 2015 and September 2015 I BELIEVE Project sessions. Let both of their stories motivate you to do monthly breast exams and get annual mammograms—I’m turning 40 in November and I’m scheduled for my first mammogram myself! Diana: July 2015 Winner I photographed 67-year-old Diana in July, after her breast reconstruction surgery. She arrived in great spirits and no bra—she told me she didn’t need one anymore because the girls were perkier than they were when she was 16 (her words, not mine!). I share her submission essay so you can understand her powerful story. I am a two-time survivor. In May of 2001, a small spot was found on my mammogram that necessitated a biopsy. The biopsy was positive for a malignancy. On June 22, 2001, I had a 1 cm lump in my left breast removed that was hormone positive. It was also in my lymph nodes, Stage 3, which required me to have both chemotherapy and radiation. I lost my hair of course but I am lucky that my head is shaped well (most of us ladies do have nicely shaped heads) and bald was more fun than a problem. All went well and everything was fine until Nov of 2013, when I had my annual mammogram. I had not felt or seen anything to cause concern but I had a call the day after the mammogram asking me to come back for another mammogram and possibly
The Girl Couldn’t Wait
The Girl Couldn’t Wait When Casondra heard I’d be in Wisconsin visiting my in-laws in early September, she jumped at the chance for me to shoot a boudoir session for her—Casondra is getting married in October and felt an album would be the perfect gift to give her husband-to-be. So the plan was Casondra was going to wait until the wedding day to share the images with her sweetie, and in turn, I was going to wait until after her wedding to blog about her session, but as the post title suggests, Casondra couldn’t wait and showed her man her reveal movie this past weekend. I hear he loved them all. 🙂 I want to thank Dana Schmidt, owner of StudioDee Images, for being my assistant for the day and letting me use her studio for Casondra’s session. Dana specializes in newborn portrait photography, was out of her element, and loved all of it. I also want to thank Rachael Lubach for styling Casondra’s hair and makeup—you did a great job! Look like fun? It is! Contact me to discuss how you want to be photographed. Until next time, Shannon
Boudoir Client Interview: Miss S | York PA | Shannon Hemauer
Boudoir Client Interview Every once in a while I’ll have a client request that I do not share any of their images because they wish to remain private. Always a bummer because I want to share the images, but I understand and always allow every client to decide the level of sharing for their images. BUT! I still wanted to share with you Miss S’ thoughts on the experience with shooting with me…I’ve sprinkled a few of my favorite boudoir images over the past year throughout the interview. How long have you been waiting to do a boudoir session and what made you decide now was the time to do one? I have wanted to do a boudoir session for about a year. I decided now was the time to do one, because my husband and I were approaching our 3rd wedding anniversary. I also thought it would be a good confidence booster and I was in need of a “pick me up.” What made you decide I was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir session? I loved your photographs. Once I video conferenced with you, I felt totally comfortable. You made me feel like one of your old friends—whether it was video conference or emails. You were so prompt at answering my MANY questions. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal? My favorite part was definitely the session. It was fun from beginning to end. I enjoyed visiting with everyone during the session—make-up artist and assistant included. What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself? I honestly didn’t recognize it as myself! How did shooting this session with me change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident? It made me feel stronger as a woman. I don’t know that I’m more confident, but I
