From Grandma to Goddess You all know my beautiful assistant, Alisha. Well, I’d like for you to meet her momma, Momma D! Momma D has coined herself as my #1 fan. She’s been dreaming of doing a contemporary glamour session with me for over a year, and earlier this month we made it happen. Look at this stunning blue dress she picked from my dress vendor. Hello Red Carpet! Here comes a star. This next one was a candid photo—Momma D was leaning toward the fan to cool down, just happened to look up at me with a smile, and I snapped it! One of my favorites. She told me she arrived as “Grandma” and left as “Goddess Iris.” I think years came off her spirit—she’s feeling younger at heart and it shows in that twinkle in her eyes. Client Interview: Jade
Client Interview with Jade Chatted with Jade a bit on what she thought of the planning process for her session and what she thought once she saw her images for the first time. How long have you been waiting to do a boudoir session and what made you decide now was the time to do one? I had been thinking about it for around a year when I actively started looking for a photographer. What made you decide I was the photographer to do your boudoir session? Kelly Brenneman, aka Kelly Belle [now known as Birdie Belle], I saw her session with you and instantly fell in love with her photos. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal? I loved it all, from pinning to my own personal board on how I wanted my hair/makeup/posing. I was nervous at first for the session since it has been a long time coming, however you and Alisha made it very relaxed and comfortable. What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself? Couldn’t believe it was myself and just in awe of how well they turned out. How did shooting this session with me change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident? At first I was nervous on how they would look because I [didn’t do any] exercising or anything for this, however the posing and seeing them took all of that away and I’m so much more confident with myself. Before having your session with me, did you feel you were photogenic? Has that changed for you? Before not really, and now yes—definitely feel different. Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images? Yes, did not think I would enjoy the planning of it all, but going through all the poses, coming up with all the
Must Be Resourceful Styling Contemporary Glamour Photo Shoots
Must Be Resourceful Styling Contemporary Glamour Photo Shoots Even if you’re a planner at heart such as I am, you’ve got to be resourceful at a moment’s notice when you are a boudoir and contemporary glamour portrait photographer because you really don’t know what’s going to happen from session to session. A last-minute client cancelation left in me a quandary: I rented two amazing dresses for the client but I had no one to wear them and I was not about to return them to the vendor without using them! It had been a while since I worked with Birdie Belle (formally Kelly Belle) and after a quick text asking if she could do a session for me, things were back on track for the photo shoot. Or so I thought. The hair/makeup artist who was scheduled wasn’t able to make it, so again I had to be quick on my feet—I was determined to shoot a session with these two dresses!—and I pulled out the makeup kit I created just for moments like this. I love the huge flowers I placed in her hair and the coloring of the dress was perfect for Birdie Belle. You should have been a fly on the wall as I attempted to help Birdie Belle into this blue dress—trying to figure out how it was supposed to go on and zip was rather a hilarious moment. It took me and Alisha the Assistant a moment to figure it all out, but as you can see, it was worth the effort. So while I do think it’s important I know how to do hair and makeup for those times I need to, I really appreciate the hair/makeup artists I hire for my clients! Client Interview: The Future Mrs B
Client Interview with the Future Mrs B I took a few moments to chat with the Future Mrs B to see what she thought about her experience and her images. How long have you been waiting to do a boudoir session and what made you decide now was the time to do one? I didn’t really think much of a boudoir session until [you] started [your] business. I decided to do one now to give to my husband-to-be on the night before the wedding. What made you decide I was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir session? Well, for one, you’re my friend =) and for two, you are fantastic at what you do. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal? I would probably have to say the planning AND the reveal were my favorite parts. What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself? I just kept saying that I didn’t believe it was me. How did shooting this session with me change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident? I guess to be open to trying new things and I guess more confidence in myself. Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images? I was not surprised because I know [you] personally so I knew everything was going to be fun and stress-free. Why should other women do a boudoir session with me? It’s fun, it gives you a different outlook on yourself, and having good photos like that of yourself looking your best is always good to have. Plus, you really are a fantastic photographer! Thank you Future Mrs B! You’ll need to let us know what Mr B thinks of the album. Makeup:
Well Worth the Wait
Jade was supposed to shoot her boudoir session on her fiancé’s truck this previous September but she needed to reschedule to June of this year. When June finally arrived, the weather was hot and humid—two things that don’t mix well with hair and makeup. I was worried she wouldn’t be able to have her session on the truck (frizzy hair and running makeup), but the weather was cool and overcast—ideal for shooting outdoors. As normal, we start out with a “before” image. What’s the purpose of the “before” image you ask? It’s so you—the everyday woman—can see these are everyday woman that I shoot. They aren’t models, but women who want to own stunning images of themselves, and I want to show you how professional hair/makeup and proper posing makes all the difference in the world. The “before” image isn’t to say, “look how unattractive this woman is before me,” but instead it’s to show you how relatable each woman is to you and me. Jade’s man followed Jade to her session so he could wipe the truck down and apply another coat of wax. No lie, an hour after Jade was well into hair/makeup, I looked outside and saw Jared waxing away—I didn’t realize he was still hard at work! I felt so much pressure to be sure to get some great shots of the truck and pose Jade around it. 😀 When Jade saw her images, she agreed it was well worth the wait.
