A Sunset Session I recently finished editing two bridal boudoir sessions from brides who are both getting married to their sweethearts in August—I am waiting until after each wedding to blog about those sessions because I don’t want either fiancé to have someone spill the beans…UGH. It’s killing me to have to wait to share! And then I finished a session for a woman who did a boudoir session to surprise her husband as a “just because I love you” gift, and I promised her I’d wait until she’s given him his album before I blog about her session… So…today I’ll blog about the sunset session I shot with Alisha the Assistant the other weekend. Warm weather is finally here and I had a chance to shoot a quick sunset session with Alisha the Assistant as my model. Using her corset, the black tulle skirt I made, and adding tulle sleeves to soften the look, I asked Alisha to face away from the setting sun and then bounced the sunlight back onto her to achieve that soft, golden glow. Hair and makeup done by Makeup by Takari. I think this is my favorite from the entire sunset session series with Alisha—I’m a big fan of the big, floppy hat. Look like fun? Well, you’re right, it IS fun. Contact me today to discuss shooting your own sunset contemporary glamour session. Until next time, Shannon
Model Interview: Mary Shipley
Model Interview: Mary Shipley Mary has loved my work since seeing images from Kelly Belle’s first session with me in January 2014. I took a few minutes to chat with Mary to see what she thought about the before/during/after of her session. How long have you been waiting to do a contemporary glamour session and what made you decide now was the time to do one? For awhile, it was time when I worked up the courage to write you and ask if you would work with me. What made you decide I was the photographer to work with to do your contemporary glamour session? I always loved your photos when my friend Kelly showed me her boudoir photos, but never knew you did contemporary glamour. When I found out you did, I knew I wanted photos by you. They are just so beautiful. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal? I would have to say the session, getting my makeup done professionally then dressing up in the blue sequined GLAMOUR VIP dress just made me feel so amazing. What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself? I thought, ‘Holy canola that’s me!’ I looked amazing and had the biggest smile on my face the rest of the day. How did shooting this session with me change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident? Yes, I would say I’m more confident with myself and changed my outlook on posing. Posing is a big key on how to make the picture look nice and feminine. Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images? I had tons of fun planning everything. Getting to pick makeup and hair on Pinterest to pick for the shoot was a blast.
Stepping Out of Her Comfort Zone
Stepping Out of Her Comfort Zone Know what is fun about shooting contemporary glamour sessions? Helping women step out of their comfort zone. Take for example this lovely lady: This is my beautiful cousin, Britain, who is a 37-year-old wife, mother, and proud Twilight-er. 😉 SIDE NOTE: Her mother—my aunt—painted the shirts we were wearing. Anyway. Britain is a natural beauty who was game for me to stylize a contemporary glamour session for her—I decided I wanted her to have a “messy” up-do and Audrey Hepburn-inspired makeup, which Makeup by Takari totally nailed. We started out doing a casual glam look. Then she changed into one of her favorite LBDs. Thanks for playing, Britain! Love ya! View all of Britain’s images in my latest promo video. Thinking about doing your own contemporary glamour session? Contact me today so we can discuss how you want to be photographed. Until next time, Shannon PS–Thank you to Takari for being my assistant for the day.
Help Spread the Word for the I BELIEVE Project
Help Spread the Word for the I BELIEVE Project Last August I launched the I BELIEVE Project, where a South Central Pennsylvanian wounded servicewomen and/or female cancer survivor/currently in treatment will win a complimentary contemporary glamour session —hair, makeup, manicure, sea salt therapy session, and exclusive product pricing. In today’s virtual world, getting the word out is rather simple—just repost, share, and forward this post. Everything you need to know can be found under “The I BELIEVE Project” tab on my website–what is the I BELIEVE Project, what’s included, qualifications, the timeline the day of the session, how the winner is picked, how to submit your name, who are the team members who help make this project happen, and the official rules. Help me give a woman from my community a chance to have this wonderful experience and to enjoy high-quality images of herself that she will be proud she owns. Most sincerely, Shannon Shannon Hemauer
Mary
Mary Mary is an aspiring model who loves to dress up and have some fun in front of the camera, and as luck would have it, she got to wear a beautiful blue sequined dress from my dress rental vendor–the blue went great with her skin coloring and blue eyes. She owned this fun black top, so I made a short black tulle skirt to make a complete outfit for her to wear. I don’t normally do full length shots for glamour, but I loved the heels ^^^ she brought—gave the outfit a sort of 80s-meets-90s vibe. Her spunkiness really came out once she put on the outfit. Tulle just seems to do that to women. For fun we turned the tulle skirt around, which at this point we decide the black top may possibility be a very short skirt. A big thank you to Makeup by Takari for styling Mary’s hair and glamming up her makeup. And of course thank you to Alisha the Assistant. Look like fun? You bet it is!
