The Lady Loves Pink Last August I was a vendor at the Infiniti of Mechanicsburg’s Ladies Night, helping to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). I spoke to many women that night about shooting a boudoir session with me–each had always wanted to do one for some time–but Miss T was serious about having a boudoir session and booked me for a January photo shoot. She and her hubby had renewed their wedding vows just last May to celebrate 20 years of marriage and during her in-person consult she was telling me how much she loved the pink Marilyn Monroe-style dress she wore on the beach during the ceremony…and I just ooh-so-causally told Miss T she could wear the pink dress again as her first outfit for the boudoir session. One of my favorite images of Miss T! ^^^ Miss T then went on to wear an adorable matching pink bra and panties set with white polka dots, and a sheer black nightie that let in the perfect amount of light around her figure when standing in front of a window. Those images are a bit too steamy to post in this PG-13 blog… But I will share the images of Miss T wearing a black bra and the 800-yard pink tulle skirt that I Alisha the Assistant and I made. Women seriously love wearing a huge tulle skirt—it’s so girlie! Look like fun? It is! Don’t be shy to contact me so we can discuss how you want to be photographed. Until next time, Shannon
Boudoir Photography Stole My Heart
I won’t lie. Boudoir photography stole my heart. In January I decided my heart was in boudoir photography. From the first session I did, I fell in love with everything boudoir has to offer and I took the jump to re-haul the photography business to only specialize in boudoir, glam, and fine art nudes. Several friends have asked me why would I decide to specialize in only one genre of photography? After all, they pointed out, I’m limiting the audience who will want to hire me. True, I told them, but this art form speaks to my heart. I love the softness of the images. I love using lighting to enhance a woman’s curves and use shadows to hide what she wants to hide. I love capturing the softness of the side of a breast and the roundness of a tush. I love taking a shy woman and walking her through the entire process to bring out a side she didn’t know she had, or perhaps like other mothers as myself, hadn’t seen in a very long time. I love empowering the women I shoot sessions for. I find it amazing how each woman I’ve already worked with, have booked for future sessions, or have casually talked to about doing a session, is different in looks, beliefs, and reason behind wanting a session, yet almost all share a common theme of insecurity. Some women describe themselves shy. Some say they need to lose weight. Some feel they don’t take pictures well. To this I reply: We all have insecurities, but don’t let that keep you from living life. Almost every woman feels they need to lose weight, but when working with a professional photographer, we know how to pose you to slim you, how to help clothing flatter your body, how to make
Katie Glamming Her Dress
Katie Glamming Her Dress Katie is a local Pin-Up model who has tats, changes her hair color on a whim, and is just one of nicest people I’ve ever met. Her smile is infectious, she’s quick to laugh, and just a joy to collaborate with for her session. She contacted me in October and said she’d love to work with me, but I don’t shoot Pin-Up. She was bummed at first, but luckily we kept chatting because I found out she had just gotten married in September, so I mentioned to her that I was offering Glam the Dress sessions starting in 2015. She scheduled her session to be in January! The goal with Glam the Dress sessions is to not look bridal, but more Red Carpet—I think Makeup by Takari did a fantastic job giving Katie the right look with the hair and makeup. I love those lashes! Looks like fun? You’re right! If you’re a newlywed bride or you’ve been married for years and you want to glam your dress, contact me! Until next time, Shannon
Glam the Dress
Glam the Dress Christmas 2014 was spent in Wisconsin visiting my husband’s family (Why, oh why, could he not be from a warm state like Hawaii?), where we ate too much and enjoyed visiting with people we haven’t seen for some time, and one of those people was my dear friend Dana, who is a very talented wedding and newborn portrait photographer located in Kiel, Wisconsin. Dana, who owns STUDIO DEE IMAGES, has been a true mentor to me on this photography journey, and it’s really nice to talk shop to someone who doesn’t go glassy-eyed when I start talking aperture and depth of field. 😀 I hadn’t planned on shooting a Glam the Dress session with Dana—I didn’t bring any of my props or accessories along for the trip—but when I mentioned to her that I was offering Glam the Dress sessions in 2015, she instantly perked up when I told her it’s basically an excuse for a woman to wear her wedding dress again. The idea is not to make the woman look bridal, but wear the gown like you would on the Red Carpet. She and her husband just celebrated eight years of marriage and she just so happened to have tried on her dress the week before—and it fit!—…so a Glam the Dress session was in need! So, off our husbands went to attend the Packers vs Lions game at Lambeau Field and one of my dearest friends and I had fun dressing up. I know Dana doesn’t realize how stunning she is, but WOW. She nailed the twinkle-in-the-eye perfectly. We didn’t have a team of professional hair and makeup artists for this session—she did her hair and I did her makeup. Halfway through the session, she brought out this stunning black-beaded shawl, which she let me
So Long, 2014!
So Long, 2014! It seemed fitting to end 2014 working with the same women I started out working with at the beginning of 2014—the fabulous Kelly Belle. I suggested to Kelly she bring along a friend to enjoy the final session of 2014 with her—I got to meet the newly engaged Hope (her sweetie popped the question on Christmas Eve!), Kelly’s BFF since they were little girls. Hope has curves and she’s knows how to use them. I told her after she got engaged that her man saw her images and said, “Damn. I better put a ring on it.” She was having so much fun, it was difficult for me to get her to stop smiling! But I couldn’t blame her—wearing the pink tulle skirt IS a lot of fun. We’re in talks to do an entire session just for her—looking forward to it! Now, on to Kelly! I love how even a simple top can look glamorous with the right posing and attitude. But of course we had to step it up a notch and bring out the purple/silver tulle skirt. I love shooting into the backlight, getting the white background using only window light coming from behind Kelly. I think their smiles say it all—shooting a BFF session is a lot of fun! Until next time, Shannon
