Valerie had a really good Christmas this year. Not only did she get her dream car (a surprise from her husband), but she also had a great gift to give to her husband: vintage-inspired boudoir portraits.
But this session was almost derailed for Valerie—at work she accidentally sliced the top of her thumb nearly off and needed to get (totally not sexy) stitches. You can see the white bandage in her ‘before’ photo below. Thankfully we were able to remove the bandage during the session and I was able to remove any sign of stitches in post-production.

How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session and what made you decide now was the time to do one?
I’ve actually never even knew someone like Shannon was out there till my friend [Ashley] told me about her experience. She told me how much she enjoyed the entire process so I thought, ‘Why can’t I do it, too?!!’ I really wanted to give my husband something different for Christmas and thought why not make it a gift for me, too!
What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir/contemporary glamour session?
I never even looked anywhere else. Her work speaks for itself and having my girlfriend rave about her, it was a no brainer.
What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
I loved meeting Shannon at our personal shopping experience. I have never shopped for lingerie before and she made me feel super comfortable and showed me all the great angles that my body had without me looking at my least favorite body parts. After our morning of shopping I had slightly become obsessed with buying lingerie (lol).
The reveal for sure should be the best part for everyone so that’s a given!! I never in a million years thought I would look as great as what I do in my photos. My vision of old Hollywood glam came to life and I couldn’t be happier!!
What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself? ‘WOW!!!!! That’s me????’
How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
I would say I’m a little more confident. I was definitely nervous because I have never done anything like this before. Having my hair and makeup done [by lead stylist Nath] made me feel absolutely beautiful. I would 100% do it again!!!
Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
I [have always] thought of myself as photogenic but now I have the tricks and tools of how to angle my body and face to look even better!
Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
Feeling comfortable in the situation. You really put yourself out there doing a boudoir photo shoot but having a photographer like Shannon and her team, you never feel out of place or like your wearing next to nothing…lol.
Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
I loved every aspect of the process! I enjoyed having Shannon beside me during the entire process. She answered every questions ( probably more than once) and helped me the whole time!!! I was definitely shocked and surprised about how much fun I had!!
Why should other women do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session with Shannon Hemauer Photography?
I think every woman deserves to feel beautiful, classy, elegant, confident, and down-right sexy!!! I felt all of those things and more. I say DO IT!!! You will NOT regret it at all!!!
