A way to feel beautiful, sexy, to be confidence.”

How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session?

About a year or two.

What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your photo shoot?

I learned about Shannon Hemauer through Facebook. I stalked her website for weeks looking at her fantastic work and all the [women] she had the opportunity to photograph. Her work is absolutely beautiful so I thought, why not at least request some info. Once I did that, her correspondence from the very beginning was so kind and thorough. That’s what made me want to continue talking with her and learning about the process.

What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?

Up until today I would have said my favorite part of the experience was the session. It was fun, out of the box, different, confident building, chatty, like a girl’s day at the spa… but then today I had my image reveal and literally started to cry the very first second the reveal started. I said to Shannon, ‘Is it normal for people to cry during this part?’ I mean the whole thing… her beautiful work, the way she made me feel beautiful, the movie reel set-up to reveal the photos… I don’t know… I just started to tear up. It was wonderful!

Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?

No. The makeup was perfect! I mean, it was a lot more makeup than I’m used to wearing but it was so well done. [Lead stylist] Nath does amazing work! She even switched out my lipstick to a deep red to go better with one of my outfits. It looked amazing. In fact, there is a behind-the-scenes shot of me looking in the mirror for the first time after seeing my makeup completely in awe!

Did you leave your experience worried that the posing felt awkward?

The posing physically felt awkward… like holding positions I’m not used to being in or holding for a period of time but I never felt like the posing was awkward. I trusted Shannon completely with the posing and it was perfect.

What were you more nervous about—the photo shoot or the image reveal? Why?

I wasn’t super nervous but I was a bit anxious… just the unknown, doing something totally different was a little uneasy but from the second I booked, Shannon is so thorough in her correspondence, that even the directions on where to park were so specific that I felt comfortable. From the second she greeted me at the door I felt 100% comfortable and at ease. We chatted, and laughed. It was just easy.

Did you arrive to the image reveal worried if you’d like your images? Why?

I wasn’t worried at all. I really studied Shannon’s website and loved how she has a talent to make everyone look beautiful. I was completely confident that I would love my images and they still blew me away today at my image reveal!

What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?

Completely shocked! I mean, not surprised at her work but still a bit in shock at how well they were captured. Really made me feel amazing to see myself looking so sexy and confident.

If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?

Freakin’ loved my makeup!

How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?

100% more confident.

Would you consider yourself a women who is very critical of herself in photographs? If yes, why are these portraits different from photographs in the past?

In some aspects, yes. Often my facial expressions I don’t love in pictures. Somehow Shannon nailed this! I even had my eyes opened in all of the images!

Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?

I sometimes felt photogenic before, but this experience definitely makes me feel a lot more photogenic for sure!

Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?

No concerns… I just didn’t give it much thought before.

Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your photo shoot, and seeing your images?

Absolutely! Especially after my image reveal, I was thinking about how I picked out the outfits, shared my ideas with Shannon, got her feedback, and changed things along the way. I mean, the whole thing is a process and to see the finished product come together and look so amazing is awesome!

Would you recommend Shannon Hemauer Photography to your friends? Why or why not?

ABSOLUTELY! Confidence building, fun, a day for yourself! You deserve it! I think everyone deserves a day like this to feel like a queen but to have such fantastic images to have for a lifetime to remember your beauty is priceless! Do it! If you are on the fence, do it! You absolutely won’t regret it!
