MEGAN’S BOUDOIR SESSION
I could never have imagined that I would ever feel as beautiful as I did experiencing a boudoir session with Shannon. Not only was the entire day of my session fun and unforgettable, the image reveal blew me away. When I saw my images, I actually cried [happy tears]. I was stunned. I was STUNNING! How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session?
I’ve wanted to do a boudoir session for 5 years, but seriously started looking into it 2 years ago.
What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your photo shoot?
I knew as soon as I saw Shannon’s website and social media that I wanted her for my boudoir experience. I love her style of photography and that she featured clients of different ages and body types—exactly what I was looking for as a plus-sized, 46-year-old woman.
How would you rate your photo shoot experience on a scale 1-10?

How did the reality of your session compare to your expectations going into it?
Shannon ‘s pre-planning process was so thorough, I knew what to expect, but I still thought I would feel awkward and self-conscious. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The session from arrival, to hair and makeup, to the shoot itself exceeded my expectations. Shannon and her team were fun and professional. I truly had a great experience!
What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the image reveal?
I needed Shannon’s organization to keep me on track through the pre-planning and the day of the season had me feeling like a queen… But the image reveal blew me away! I cried big tears of happiness and gratitude and I will never forget how absolutely beautiful I felt seeing those images for the first time.
Did you leave your photo shoot worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
I usually just let my natural wave fall where it will, so it took a minute to process the big, beautiful curls, but the makeup was everything I ever dreamed of!

Did you leave your boudoir experience worried that the posing felt awkward?
The posing truly felt awkward, but I had all the faith in the world in the process. I was just worried that I didn’t get it right!
What were you more nervous about—the session or the image reveal? Why?
I was more nervous about the image reveal. I was worried I wouldn’t look like I wanted, I’d be critical, and that I’d be disappointed.
Did you arrive to the image reveal worried if you’d like your images? Why?
I was so excited once the time came, I forgot to be worried!
What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
I cannot even put into words what I felt when I saw the first image. I was so overwhelmed with gratitude for the entire experience and love for myself that I cried [happy tears]! I never expected to feel this good about myself or my body!
If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
I loved what I saw in my images! I felt like a total bombshell!
How did shooting this boudoir session change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident? How has the experience affected your morale?
This experience made me love myself again. It gave me a day to stop and focus on me and in the end, I have a beautiful gift for my [now-husband] for our wedding day. He’s always said that he wished I could see how I look through his eyes. I get it now.

Would you consider yourself a women who is very critical of herself in photographs? If yes, why are these portraits different from photographs in the past?
I am very critical of photographs of myself. I avoided taking pictures because I knew there would be retake after retake. Shannon’s knowledge of posing and lighting changed all that!
Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
I didn’t think I was photogenic at all. Now I know how to pose and the difference the right light will make in a picture. I’ve started using the techniques Shannon taught me and have even successfully taken selfies I’m proud of!
Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
I had never hired a photographer before Shannon. I thought that this was a luxury that was out of my reach and that I didn’t deserve. Now that I’ve had this experience, I truly believe in my heart that every woman should have a boudoir session. It’s truly life-changing!
Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
I was surprised at how excited I was for each part of the process. I was confident in my decision to book with Shannon from the first phone call, and her organization and attention to detail allowed me to relax and truly enjoy myself!
Would you recommend a boudoir photo shoot with Shannon Hemauer Photography to your friends? Why or why not?
I started recommending boudoir sessions with Shannon to all of my friends as soon as I left my session! Shannon and the team made me feel truly special. They were fun and encouraging and I felt comfortable and confident with them. I think everyone deserves to have a day and an image reveal like I had!
