This boudoir experience with Shannon far exceeded my expectations. I always wanted to do a session, but kept waiting for the “right time.” The truth is, there was no right time- it’s always a good time! I’m as introverted and shy as they come and honestly if I can do it, anybody can! I thought I would have the most challenging body type to shoot, but Shannon and her team made me feel at ease and she knew just what to do and how to pose me. Her talent and professionalism is best of the best. She guides you through every step in the months, weeks, and days leading up to your session. She’s always available for questions and reassurance. She understands the nervousness and hesitation that some may have, and really helps you through it. Every single fine detail is thought of and planned for. The hair and makeup artist is out of this world amazing and Shannon’s assistant is so kind, helpful, and fun! If you are considering a session and having any doubts, I would highly consider scheduling a consultation. This is an experience you will never forget or regret! Morgan is not joking when she says she’s shy! But I was able to help her to relax and come out of her shell just enough to have a fun time at her boudoir session.

How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session?
I’ve been wanting to do a boudoir session for a number of years. I first contacted Shannon back in 2018 and ended up not going through with it. It’s 2021 and I finally did it!

What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your photo shoot?
I’ve always admired Shannon’s work after finding her on facebook. I admired the talent and professionalism and truthfully didn’t feel the need to search further. If I was going to do it, Shannon was the one I wanted to work with – and I’m so glad I did!

What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the image reveal?
My favorite part of the experience was the image reveal. I am not good at visualizing how things come together, so I was so surprised to see the outcome!

Did you leave your photo shoot worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
I loved my makeup and was slightly unsure about my hair simply because I’m not used to giving my hair any volume. I ended up loving it in the photos!

Did you leave your boudoir experience worried that the posing felt awkward?
I was a little bit concerned, especially as a plus size woman. I thought for sure I’d be the “problem client” who would cause problems with finding good poses. It didn’t even have to be a discussion – Shannon knew EXACTLY what to do!

What were you more nervous about—the session or the image reveal? Why?
I was more nervous about the session because I am very introverted, shy, and self conscious. Shannon and her team put me at ease from the moment I walked in the door!

Did you arrive to the image reveal worried if you’d like your images? Why?
I was anxious because I generally do not like any photos of myself. I am very self-critical.

What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
Is that really me?! Haha!

If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
I loved it!

How did shooting this boudoir session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
I’m definitely more confident than I was before my photo session with Shannon. I’ve struggled with weight my entire life for a number of reasons and really wanted to learn to accept myself as a plus size woman. This photo shoot was a game changer!

Would you consider yourself a women who is very critical of herself in photographs? If yes, why are these portraits different from photographs in the past?
I am VERY critical of myself in photographs. I feel that it’s very easy to compare yourself when photographed with others… whether it be hair, makeup, weight, height, etc. Boudoir gives you the chance to see YOU and how beautiful you can look and feel as an individual. It’s a different focus and outlook. It’s amazing!

Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
I am definitely not photogenic and probably still wouldn’t consider myself photogenic, but I am much more open to people snapping pics of me. Before my session, any time anybody wanted a picture, it was a hard “no!” and I would hide from the camera. I’m not doing that anymore after seeing myself in a different light.

Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
Yes, it ended up being a lot of fun! At first, I was nervous about finding outfits and how I should pose. Shannon helps you and guides you through it ALL!

Would you recommend a boudoir photo shoot with Shannon Hemauer Photography to your friends? Why or why not?
Absolutely! I believe everybody should do this at least once. Shannon’s not only is super talented, but awesomely professional and fun. It’s all around a good time!
