This past summer, I lost both of my parents, put on 25+ pounds, and turned 50! To say I did not feel sexy/beautiful/even human is an understatement. My sister purchased this as a 50th birthday gift and a forced me to put myself first for change. Being the medical guru for the family, I always put everyone else’s needs long before my own. I have to say, spending the day w/ people catering to ME, making ME feel good, and like the person I know I have buried in me was breathtaking! Allowing myself to be 100% vulnerable for my own benefit was so freeing! Shannon & her crew make you feel so comfortable & allow you to be vulnerable & let your inner goddess run wild! This experience has made me feel like a human being again! Like the beautiful 50 year old I am! Thank you so much to my sister for “forcing” this on me and for Shannon & her crew for bringing out the best in me! -Pam
Pam’s sister, Coral, did a boudoir session with me earlier this year, and she enjoyed it so much that she bought her sister a photo shoot as a 50th birthday gift to her. And honestly, the shoot came at the perfect time for Pam—you’ll read below that she’s had a rough year, and she was ready to let loose and have fun.

How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session?
I had never considered doing a boudoir session until my sister did one & LOVED IT!!! After hearing her gloat about her experience, it peaked an interest & was booked as a gift for my 50th birthday from my fabulous sister!
How would you rate your photo shoot experience on a scale 1-10?

What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the image reveal?
The feeling of compete vulnerability! I’m not one to feel comfortable walking around my own home by myself, but to let myself completely go in front of a camera, made me feel incredibly empowered!! Shannon’s professionalism & eye for lighting & her profession as a whole was simply amazing!
Did you leave your photo shoot worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
YES! I got in my car & thought “Oh boy! I hope I look like myself & not someone else!” I gave my full trust to her & her team and was far from disappointed at my reveal!
Did you leave your boudoir experience worried that the posing felt awkward?
Not really, She really explained why the poses would feel awkward & she was exactly right!

What were you more nervous about—the session or the image reveal? Why?
The session! I was very excited for the reveal, but I was nervous about the session. I recently put on 25+ stress pounds & am NOT happy w/ my body. I used to be in very good shape w/ a few little curves, but the thought of baring my belly fat scared the hell out of me! Shannon & her crew made me feel so beautiful, relaxed, & reassured me of my inner beauty transforming into out beauty!
Did you arrive to the image reveal worried if you’d like your images? Why?
No, I had the advantage of seeing my sister’s [images], & there was no doubt in my mind I was going to be happy!
What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
WOW!!! I am GORGEOUS!!!!!

If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
Absolutely! When I left, I went out for lunch w/ my sister & my boyfriend… I felt weird being out & about looking like that as it is not my typical look, but I enjoyed it.
How did shooting this boudoir session change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident? How has the experience affected your morale?
I definitely have more confidence in my beauty at 25+ pounds! To see myself in various lighting/poses, I realized 25+ hasn’t really affected my inner beauty.
Would you consider yourself a women who is very critical of herself in photographs? If yes, why are these portraits different from photographs in the past?
YES!!!! I’m not a fan of my eyebrows, my breast size, my new belly size… I tend to have a little bit of a cross-eye & a fake looking smile. I HATE selfies!!! But these pics are simply amazing! I haven’t had a portrait done in well over 30 years.

Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
As long as I [do chin-out-and-down]!
Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer? Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
I had a lot of fun shooting the session. Sadly I was going through two major losses during the planning stages of my session, so to be there & let loose & forget all of my woes, was very freeing, relaxing, & I felt like a human being once again.
Would you recommend a boudoir photo shoot with Shannon Hemauer Photography to your friends? Why or why not?
100%!!! Even w/ the travel!! The professionalism, structure, ongoing contact, and organization of everything from start to finish was WELL worth my six-hour drive!!! [My boyfriend and I] were able to make a mini vacation out of it, visited places & saw things we would not have ever done.
Is there anything at all you wish we would have done differently or think we could do to further enhance the experience in the future?
I wish I would have spent time in front of my own camera (selfies) so I didn’t feel like I needed to think about smiling in the beginning of the session.
When should we schedule your next session?
LOL!! Maybe I would do one w/ my man!!!
