Shanna & Duran: Couple’s Boudoir Session | Carlisle PA
In late 2018/early 2019, I worked on a personal project called “Bottle-Feeding Mommas,” where I photographed mommas bottle feeding their babies, and one of my models was Shanna and her then five-month-old daughter. Shanna was super easy to pose and I secretly hoped I’d get to work with her again… and I did! She and her husband recently did a couple’s boudoir session and at their image reveal, both exclaimed I really captured the bond between them.

“When I contacted Shannon about a couples shoot, I was terrified. I was excited to do the shoot but wanted to surprise my husband—and was terrified he’d hate the idea. Shannon was so wonderful to work with me and keep all of our planning on the down low until I decided to tell him.
He actually embraced the idea a lot better than I thought.
We were both very nervous the day of the shoot but having been photographed by Shannon before, I desperately wanted the opportunity for her to catch some intimate moments between us. If anyone could do it, I knew it would be her.

What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your session?
Prior work.
What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
Reveal!!!
Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
No. I felt like a princess leaving my session and was told how pretty I looked by a stranger!

Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward?
Nope.
What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal? Why?
Session, the idea of being so exposed is scary but it felt natural once we got there.
Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images? Why?
Nope. Shannon took stunning photos of me before. I know she’s got amazing talent.
What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
Wow. Nailed it.

If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
Yes.
How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
The whole experience has been a confidence journey for me. I definitely felt happy with the reveal!
Would you consider yourself a women who is very critical of herself in photographs? If yes, why are these portraits different from photographs in the past?
Yes!!!! I’m trying to embrace myself more. Shannon has just the right touch of making the images look polished but not overdone.
Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
Not really. I’m not too bad.

Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
We don’t like to spend money on ourselves. I was worried [my husband] wouldn’t think it was worth it. Even though I knew it was. After seeing our pictures, he agreed it was worth it.
Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
It was a lot of fun. My goal was to be myself but glamorous.
Would you recommend Shannon Hemauer Photography to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes! She is great to work with and very friendly. She helped with my many questions and didn’t get frustrated with my inexperience.
