When I met Shannon in person for the first time, I immediately felt like she was someone I’ve known for years—she was so easy to talk to and truly has a contagious joy about her. And she ended up surprising me—she kept telling me leading up to the session how awkward she is in front of the camera, and then she ends up being super easy to direct with posing.
Shannon, who has been married for 20 years, is a nurse and a mom to two 16-year-old boys, a 15-year-old girl, and a 9-year-old boy. She’s a fitness instructor, owns two dogs, and loves watching her boys in sports and her daughter in her singing/acting. She struggles with weight, more so now that she is turning 45, and wants to do a boudoir session as a part of “redefining” who she is and being proud of who she is.
When I asked Shannon what she hoped to get out of doing a boudoir session, she said, “I want to see my beauty and strength. I am reclaiming myself and trying to lose the low self esteem and concern with the weight. [I want] more confidence in me! To see and know my outer beauty matches my inner beauty! Losing concern with my weight.”
Below is my client interview with Shannon—take a moment to read through her response, and if you can to relate to her concerns/worries, then contact me today to discuss your own boudoir session.
How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session?
Over a year. What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir session?
I had viewed her work and loved it, but once I spoke with her I was sold. She is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and respectful of the uniqueness of the situation. What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
I have to say the session. I found it to be empowering and liberating. A life changer for me. Shannon allowed me to expresses my inner self and she captured the beauty of that.Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
Not at all, the hair and makeup were amazing. All aspects of “over doing it” were explained to me and it all came out perfectly.Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward?
Not at all. What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal?
Definitely the session. To pose in front of strangers in revealing attire can be uncomfortable, but Shannon and her team made me not only feel comfortable, but beautiful in each outfit and each pose.Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images?
No, I KNEW that Shannon would capture some amazing photographs. What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
I was in awe. I was able to see the beauty in myself that I thought age, life, and motherhood had taken away; SHE is still in there! If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
I love everything I saw.How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
This was a life changer for me! My confidence has climbed back to where it was. All women need to do this to see the beauty that we feel we lose as we spend so much time caring for others rather than ourselves.Would you consider yourself a women who is very critical of herself in photographs? If yes, why are these portraits different from photographs in the past?
These portraits captured the true beauty that I have. Being in them alone allowed them to show all that I am. I never am in photos, I am always taking them, so to have someone do this for me and allow me the space to show who I am, was amazing. Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
I can now see how I am photogenic. Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
My biggest concern was feeling insecure about being in my outfits in front of others. I walked out in my first outfit and said to myself, “You can waste this time feeling concerned about how you look, or you can embrace this time and show what you feel inside.” Shannon and her team, every step of the way, made me feel strong and beautiful, making it easy for me to feel great about myself. Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
From the first time I spoke to Shannon I knew this would be a fun experience.Would you recommend Shannon Hemauer Photography to your friends? Why or why not?
Absolutely! Every women needs to do this for THEMSELVES.Is there anything I could have done to improve upon your experience?
